Biography:

Growing up in Pennsylvania, Thomas Sterner was an avid backpacker and rock climber. Earning a Bachelor of Fine Art from Kutztown University, he taught at the Wyomissing Institute of Art, and served as the master printmaker for the Art Series Program, producing etching and lithograph editions for various NYC artists. Upon moving to Maryland, he joined The Artist’s Gallery in Frederick, and also served on the board of the Carroll County Arts Council, which he has rejoined in 2015.

His employment in industry and manufacturing at Laser Applications, Inc, further developed his sense of process, discovery, and human error in his art making, although he remains firmly anchored in natural subjects. His studio, Art Factory, and residence are nestled in farmland east of Union Mills, where he has been a full time artist since 2015, and lives happily with his wife Barbara and their children Bella and Taj. He shows his art locally and at NOMA in Frederick MD, and participates in the Carroll County Studio Tour.
